Well unfortunately we will not be able to attend due to the fact that we just were accepted into the Los Angeles Comedy Festival, which occurs at the same time. So, for those playing at home, in the event of a tie, LA wins out over Canada.

A Shining Symbol - Bob Barth & Timothy Shew
written by Thomas Tierney from the new musical Zack Hill based on the comic strip by John Deering & John Newcombe

NEWS
A couple of weeks ago I received a phone call from one of my favorite composers, Tom Tierney. I have worked on several of Tom’s projects including The Back of the North Wind and Summer Stock, and it is always a delight.
In fact some years ago when I first started working with Tom I had discovered that we had, in a way, worked together before. Tom had written the musical Narnia, based on the novels written by C. S. Lewis, which, when I was 13 years old, I played the pivotal role of Mr. Beaver in a community production. I still think that’s kind of neat!
So… when Tom asked for me to come and lay down some tracks for a demo of a new musical I was more than happy to oblige and even happier once I find out I would be joined by Timothy Shew (Les Miserable, Sunset Boulevard, The Producers: The Musical - the movie.)
Tim and I have worked on several musicals in development and we always a fantastic time together.
The recording went well, the demo sounds good and I wish Zack Hill the best of luck.

Stephen King’s High School Musical was created by Jamie King and Sam Rosenberg and enjoyed it’s premier at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre (NYC) on December 18th, 2009 under the direction of John Flynn. It features eight original songs and stars Sam Rosenberg, Sarah Jane Marek, Kendra Treichler, Alessandro Colla, Bob Barth, Brianna Tyson and Leal Vona as Dollawise the Evil Rapping Clown.
Review from Broadwayworld.com:
“The most unique [presentation] thus far was the stunning and clever Stephen King’s High School Musical…the wit of the writing was on the same level as that of the Urinetown folks. Don’t be surprised if this duo is writing musical comedy for Broadway producers very soon. The show also featured some great performers including [Sarah Jane Marek] as Carrie with a song about telekinesis that had the audience nearly falling out of their seats with laughter, and Brianna Tyson who’s portrayal of Carrie’s zombie mother was one of the highlights of the night. “
There’s stand up
There’s awkward tales of love
There’s problem solving
There’s booze and joy.

Upcoming Apperances
I just got home from rehearsal for my first appearance in DREAM ROLE. My good friend Glennis McMurray is a producer in this wonderful monthly event. There is no way I’m going to be able to summarise what it is so…. here is their summary:

Remember when you were nine and you auditioned for the role of Annie but got the role of Orphan #3 instead? (You didn’t have any lines but you named yourself Gloria anyway.) Or when you were twelve and all you wanted was to be Madonna, but your mom told you a career as an Accountant required less STD screenings? (And then she threw out your lace gloves.) Or how about when you were fifteen and all you dreamed about was playing Henry Hill in Goodfellas and secretly cursed all the *&^%$ lines before going to sleep? (Maybe you also kept little baggies of powdered sugar under your bed.) Okay maybe not. But EVERYONE, at some point in their life, has connected to an artist, a movie, a song or a character in a way NO ONE else can understand. You knew that certain role was meant for you and only YOU. Well, for our performers this is their chance to make that dream come true. Our show features some of New York and LA’s top performers and one brave novice who is guided to greatness through rehearsal time and help from our accomplished pianist. Every show is a unique experience full of laughter, heart and the pure joy of performing.
Calling all dreamers - tonight’s the night to make dreams come true in… DREAM ROLE!
I’m really looking forward to my brief appearance. This should be a really fun night.

Then the following Saturday night, February 20th, I will be doing some more Stand-up with my fellow That’s What He Said! panelist, Giancarlo Mariutto. This will be my third appearance in Giancarlo’s fantastic night of comedy. So please come on down and have a laugh.
